Donald Hall Reads

Donald Hall was appointed U.S. Poet Laureate in 2006. He has built a career as one of America’s most widely read contemporary poets, and has published 15 books of poetry. Hall has also written more than ten books for children, more than five works of memoir, text books on reading literature, short story collections, and biographies. Educated at Oxford, Harvard, and Stanford, Hall remains one of our most prolific writers through his own struggle with colon cancer and the loss of his wife, the poet Jane Kenyon in 1995. In this video, Hall gives a spirited reading of many of his classic poems, including the often-anthologized “My Son, My Executioner”:
